Since 1975, Boston immigration lawyer Roy Jack Watson, Jr., has represented companies throughout the United States in visa applications for talented foreign nationals. Mr. Watson, has devoted his life to immigration law. For more than three decades he has limited his practice exclusively to immigration law. He has served in an executive capacity for all of the major bar associations and is currently Chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Immigration Law Committee. Mr. Watson has previously served as Chair of the New England Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and as such also served on the Board of Governors for AILA National. During more than 30 years of practice he has served on a variety of specialty Committees and is a respected author and presenter on business immigration. Mr. Watson has been invited to speak on U.S. Immigration Law by numerous national and international organizations, including the American Law Institute – American Bar Association (ALI-ABA). He regularly presents the immigration section of Fundamentals of International Business Transactions, and has recently been invited to speak on immigration for ALI-ABA’s annual Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions program. He is also the creator of the Immigration Case Reporter published by Matthew Bender.
Mr. Watson previously served for a number of years as Chairman of the Boston Bar Association’s Immigration Law Committee. During that time he worked to bring a wide variety of programs to skilled immigration practitioners as well as programs to lawyers working in other specialty areas to show them how immigration law is an important component of their overall representation of their clients. This is especially true for those firms seeking to provide “Full Service” support to their international client base. Mr. Watson also served two years as Co-Chair of the Boston Bar Association’s International Law Section. One of Mr. Watson’s proudest achievements of his tenure was to begin the Foreign Lawyer’s Committee which provides an independent forum for foreign lawyers who are admitted to practice in a foreign jurisdiction.
During his more than 35 years of practice, Mr. Watson has won a number of landmark cases. Prior to the dramatic events in Poland that broke open the Communist hold on that country, Mr. Watson won the first Polish Asylum case ever approved in the Boston office. Also, Mr. Watson challenged the Department of Labor on the right of an employer to use experience previously gained while working for the petitioner. In the landmark case of New England Nuclear Corporation vs. Sadano, Mr. Watson won the right to use such prior experience.
Mr. Watson has been an invited speaker / lecturer at over 25 AILA Annual Conferences, and continues to speak to groups large and small on the passage of new laws that impact lawful immigration.
